IMUS
Integrated bioMass Utilization System (IMUS™) is a patented system to derive renewable energy from high-solids, high-fibre, organic wastes such as manure from outdoor feedlots, food industry residues, and municipal wastes. The IMUS™ system that the Integrated bioRefinery™ will use has been in place and operational for over two years at the site, and will be expanded approximately fourfold to match the needs of the Integrated bioRefinery™.

The IMUS™ system, pictured above, works by using a certain type of microorganism to break down the organic waste material, these microorganisms release bioGas as the result of their activity.

bioGas
BioGas is a renewable energy product similar in many ways to natural gas, so similar, in fact, that it can properly be referred to as renewable natural gas!
BioGas is produced by trillions of tiny bacteria-like organisms in the IMUS™ anaerobic digesters, effectively making IMUS™ a natural gas well! But better than a regular gas well, IMUS™ never runs out of renewable biogas!

Raw bioGas is composed of a combination of several gases, methane (the main component of the natural gas that comes to your home), carbon dioxide, water vapor, and traces of some other gases. In IMUS™, we clean the bioGas so that it contains only high proportions of methane and some carbon dioxide; we call this “Polished bioGas!”

Further processing of polished bioGas to make it chemically the same as the natural gas used to heat homes worldwide is possible too; the resulting product is often referred to as renewable natural gas.

The Growing Power Hairy Hill Intregrated Integrated bioRefinery™ makes use of polished bioGas to produce green electricity, steam, and hot water in our bioUtility™ that will fuel the workings of the Integrated bioRefinery™.

bioFertilizer
Growing Power™ bioFertilizer is a fully renewable fertilizer recommended for use as a soil-builder in all types of applications, from agricultural, to municipal to lawn and garden.

Growing Power™ bioFertilizer is pathogen and weed-seed free! It is also free of toxic chemicals and nasty odours and can be applied in areas where application of chemical fertilizer is not safe or desirable.

Growing Power™ bioFertilizer is excellent for yard and garden, both as a top-dressing and as a soil amendment, and for new homes we recommend mixing in Growing Power™ bioFertilizer with your topsoil to achieve maximum soil vitality in your new yard!

Growing Power™ bioFertilizer is especially suited to the revitalization of depleted or compacted soils. Highmark’s special IMUS™ process removes all the smaller carbon molecules from the original material, leaving behind only material that takes a very long time to break down in the soil, making it excellent bulk organic material for all soils!
